Two cities, same name, different countries, pronounced differently

Downtown Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, looking at it from the Canadian locks, Sault means cataract, which is used to describe the rapids in the St Mary.s river here at the end of Lake Superior
Looking back at the Canadian Sault Locks, which are only used now for recreational boats, and was closed for the season while we were there,
the U.S  Sault Locks, in Michigan carry all of the heavy traffic

Looking across the locks at the Friendship Bridge connecting the two Sault Ste Maries,
and two countries

This is a swing over dam, only one like it in the world, made all of steel, it swings over the lock and dams it up in a matter of minutes

Only ship we saw on the lake and it was a museum
Downtown waterfront, downtown is built on an island, you can't help but have waterfront
Town was booming in 60's and 70's, not so booming now,
steel mills and paper mills fell on hard times

We thought it was an indian, or first nation, casino, but no, it was an Ontario lottery casino
We will leave tomorrow and follow Hwy 17 east toward Ottowa, then down to St Lawrence waterways to the Thousand Islands, and yes, we did find somwhere to celebrate Cindy's birthday, Dairy Queen!
