Still going around Lake Superior we are in Wawa, Ontario

Left Thunder Bay this morning and continued on our journey around Lake Superior, covered the top northern part in Canada and part way down the eastern side, still in Ontario, tomorrow we get to the most scenic part, or so we've been told.  Hard to get any pictures as the lake is fleeting glimpses as we drive by, and I have to open my side window, pull up the screen and take a picture through our lift, as this picture will show.
Sorry having trouble putting my pictures on have to log off and try in the middle of th night when fewer people are using to internet.

Circle Tour of Lake Superior

We drove forever and ever trying to get to Lake Superior thinking that once we got there there would be plenty of places to stay as it would be a waterfront area, selling t shirtts and floppy hats every where.  We were wrong, on the US side there was a big granite wall and the road was up on a bluff, occasionally you could see what looked like the ocean out there but not very often, no place to stay, and it was getting dark, so we snuck into a rest stop and stayed the night.

Next morning it was raining and things looked better, few more camping spots, Indian trading posts, civilization, but then we got to the border, they made us walk the plank and come in but they let us through.

90 more miles and we were in Thunder Bay, largest commerce center in Canada.  We thought we would see a waterfront there, but there was just a place where ships docked and took in grain, no real access to the water, pretty to look at, the largest lake in the world, over 10% of the worlds fresh water is in that lake.

Information Pagoda in Thunder Bay
The other side of this is shallow falls that go into the Lake

Shallow falls, sorry about the guard rail, but there was no place to pull over

Thunder Bay is a cute little town, sounds like a Hockey Team name however, but it's cute, looks like the winter's could get very cold here, maybe some ice fishing

Ely Minnesota, The Bear Center, where Lily and Hope Roam

  • Go like crazy on a old back woods road in the middle of no where until you think you can't take it any more and voila, you are in Ely!
You can see why the bears are here, woods, woods, woods, lakes, lakes, lakes.
We spent a wonderful afternoon in here, the back of the center is a natural habitat with three bears living there, Ted happened to be eating when we were there.
Notice little squirrel to the left who is not worried one bit about the big old black bear!

The little town of Ely, mostly canoe outfitters for all of the near by lakes

Had to say good by to Ted, since we were just "that far from" Lake Superior we decided to take the Circle Tour around it, so off we went down that same bumpy, highway 1 toward the Lake

North Dakota Buffalo meets Norwegian Ancestors

Doesn't impress Norwegians only 40 foot motorhome does, especially the tow bar!
Painted Canyon at Theodore Roosevelt Park North Dakota
Gracie enjoying the Northwest Minnesota fall foilage

The view out our windshield, fall in Minnesotta
Timmy and Gracie are perfect, where did our doggies go to?

Having trouble in bloggerland

We are not staying in wifi spots and when we do the wifi is not very good and is not allowing me to put pictures on, but will do my best.
We are in Thunder Bay, Ontario, look at the map and find it, it is all the way on top of Lake Superior on the Northwest side.
We drove through Idaho, Montana, North Dakota, and Minnesota, crossed over the border this afternoon and here we are.
North Dakota was funny, stayed at the Welcome rest stop, two buses pull up and out pops 90 people fresh from Norway, we think they are going to enjoy the buffalo that are huge and grazing right in the rest stop, a few ran up and took pictures of the buffalo, and the rest ran over and took pictures of our motorhome, one particular guy took 20 pictures of the tow bar towing our car, then a woman asked me if the motorhome was mine, as I was standing there with Gracie and she told us that they had never seen any motorhome that big, that they had just got here from Norway, the day before, they were on their way to Bismark to see where their ancestors went when they came to the US.
We got to go to Ely Minnesota and see the Bear Center, where Lily and Hope are from, is was good seeing where they do all there roaming around in.
Will try to put some pictures in here, but don't hold your breath.Tried for 3 hours kept getting server errors, and they are good pictures too!

We are scooting down the road now.........

We left home at noon, Friday, had to wait for a new cell phone battery to arrive. Spent the first night in the Idaho Welcome Center Rest Area, night snuck up on us and our first attempt to find an RV park failed. The doggies are being exceptionally good, (where have our dogs gone and when will they be back) no tugging on their leashes, come first time you call them, stay when you tell them to, amazing.
Today we started on our arduous journey through Montana, I know, big sky country and all, but there is so much of it that looks the same and it goes on and on and on. We are in Livingston, Montana now, found an RV park, so it's showers for all and get to put all slides outs out in the rv, whooo hooo.
We learned that Butte, Montana is an International Port, perhaps all the beautiful things to look at blinded us to the ocean that butts up to Butte, or maybe a huge river or two????
Whatever, off to North Dakota tomorrow, Cindy has never been, then to Minnesota. No leaves yet, a few but not many.

We are getting ready to go......

Hopefully we will get a "you are free to get out and stretch your legs" ok, from Dr Coulter. Those of you who have followed the trials and tribulations of my health the past few years know that we haven't been able to go any where because of one operation or another.
Now, if Dr Coulter says go, we are going, before something else catches us.
And just where are we going, you might ask?
To the Thousand Islands, for starters, and then off to see the fall foilage before winter sets in.
We hope to get pictures that we can share with you as we go along.
As some of you enjoyed our Rvingtoalaska.blogspot.com, which is still out there, we hope you like this one too.
I'm older now, so I'll have to figure out how to get all those pictures in there again.
So, it's Cindy, Gracie, Timmy and Linda, we'll see you on the road.
